One of the last #elhchallenges from David Anderson was focused on sharing your own stockphoto’s. The use of this kind of images can be a good starting point to add visual elements to your eLearning course, but at the other hand it is very challenging to combine these photo’s with the other images. Especially if you are looking for a certain visual consistency in your training.

With the above in mind, I decided to create my own drawings. Firstly, because drawing can be very soothing and secondly to work towards a unique personal style for future elearning projects.

A good starting point for your first drawings is to take a dive into all the incredible examples on youtube. One of my favourite youtube channels became the channel from Christopher Hart. His explanations are easy to follow and are a great motivator to get you on the right track of drawing your first cartoon.

Besides of being a cartoonist, Christopher also is a writer of some famous how to draw books. These books can be very helpfull to get your drawings to the next level. Certainly if you want to draw your cartoons from different angles.

As soon as you got the hang of it it’s all about practising, practising and practising. Start with drawing basic shapes as a starting point for your cartoons and other drawings.Once you have mastered this way of drawing, you can start with perfecting your cartoon. Often this is no more than a little stretching or squeezing of the various shapes. (see the images from Christopher below).
